AU's 1st In-Store Radio!

Please don't blame me but have you ever wandered into a retail store & heard music then maybe an announcement;... "Don't forget in Aisle 3 we have a special on XYZ?" and thought... WHAAT!....

Yep - It's called advertising at the 'POS or Point Of Sale'... and yes - I was part of all that  'back in the day'. In fact I created the VERY first In-Store Radio service for BIG-W across AU ! (sorry!) :-(

Ever been to a Black-Tie Masquerade Ball?  We can assure you it’s probably THE most fun way to raise funds to help keep people safer on our roads.

The 1st Annual ‘Five to Drive’ – Black Tie Masquerade Ball went off with a bang at the Maryborough Town Hall in SE Qld having been delayed a year due to COVID

The event was organised by Sharon Bell, the founder of Hypodrive who we first met last year.  We caught up with her to get all the details on what happened at the Ball, the entertainment, the funds raised and the future.

River To Reef... by Pushbike!

Imagine being told you’ve got an extremely rare type of Brain Cancer - Oligodendroglioma - which CAN be treated but not cured – with the average life expectancy from diagnosis to death – just ten years.

Would you draw up a bucket list of MUST-DO adventures to tick off?…  OR would you embark on an ambitious attempt to cycle 4000kms up the coastline of Australia to raise much-needed research funds to help doctors find new treatments to improve brain cancer patient outcomes.

About Hearts of Purple

Keep your eyes open and tell an authority if you see examples of someone trying to exert excessive control over their partner. That’s the message from Qld Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett who attended the recent Walk The Talk Shell’s Way’ community event in Hervey Bay to encourage more widespread knowledge of the hidden ways domestic abuse occurs – to prevent them becoming a fatality.

Walk The Talk Re-cap 2022

This was the 2nd Annual Community event to raise awareness and support for Domestic and Family Violence prevention in memory of Michelle Howden - a strong advocate for D&FV Support which attracted four times the number of supporters compared to the inaugural event last year. A sign Aunty Shell's legacy lives on and is growing further support.

Community Flights

Hervey Bay on QLD's Fraser Coast is hardly 'remote' but despite having some great medical facilities, getting specialist care usually means a trip to Brisbane, just over 3 and a half hours away by car.

But one very clever local pharmacist Mark McMurtrie - who also happens to be a pilot - has come up with a great new service called Community Flights. We managed to catch up with Mark at the local Daymans General Store for a quick bite to find out more....

Sip, Paint & Munch Over Brunch!

Ever considered yourself an 'artist'?... Neither did we, until we went to a very relaxed late morning paint session in Hervey Bay QLD called 'Sip, Paint & Munch over Brunch'!

It's just one of many events created by local artist Michelle Valdivia, aka Shelly Seashells. Lots of fun and whether you've painted before or not, you might just be surprised at how talented we all are without ever knowing it!

Nudging 87 years of age & despite a major health scare some years ago, not a lot seems to have slowed down prolific blogger, creative artist and graphic designer Brian Lee.

Fraser Coast Toy Run - 2021

If you’ve ever wondered what more than 400 high powered motor bikes might sound like – then just ask the residents of all the suburbs between Maryborough and the usually peaceful town of Hervey Bay on Queensland’s Fraser Coast. They’ll tell you… It’s loud - VERY loud.

Lucy Pickering (Nee Lord)

In loving memory of my mum Lucy Mavis Pickering (nee Lord) born 20th September 1921 who passed away peacefully on June 11, 2009 8:40pm aged 87... This was a short video to celebrate her life when she turned 80 in 2002.

When you think about it... life is very short, so having memories like this is a way of 're-living' a life and most importantly, remembering a loved one.
