Friends?... Yea Right!

There are many things in our lives that can make us stressed, but the #1 stress maker in our lives has to be people.

Mostly, people are OK right? – Most of the time!

People in our social circles, the workplace, club, church or community groups or whatever are all generally nice to each other, down to earth, reasonably centered and overall non-confrontational…until...

Negative News Creates More Violence

News today is stuck in the 80’s. The old TV news producer’s mantra - ‘If it bleeds it leads’ - has never been more true today with the majority of headlines having at least one of the following words...

Killed, kidnapped, murdered, sexual assault, molested, raped, bombed, terrorist, victim, tragedy, disgraced, doomed, failure, online troll, suicide and more recently the 'C' word… COVID... words that over time make us all – especially younger people - a little de-sensitised to what has become an increasingly violent and less caring society.

Remembering Russell NZ - Image: © www.CruiseMapper.com

Milk in a churn, life on a cliff, baby in a suitcase, and the dunny with a view.

When people travel to Russell in the Bay of Islands now, they do it in comfort by car, bus, or luxury coach.   We travelled on a rattling old train, with our baby daughter in a canvas bassinet. It was December 1960.  We had settled in Auckland about 243km/s from Russell.  We were going for our first holiday since arriving in New Zealand, to the Bay of Islands.

Solo Traveller Sandra

I bought a Jayco campervan about 2 years and I've been on the road ever since. And I'm actually enjoying it!   Plus, I've got my four-legged baby with me…  She's the boss of course!

But some people wonder WHY I’m doing this… Well basically I just woke up one day and I didn't want to die in a house.

Wanna Be Rich & Famous?

It would be great to say ‘I’m independently wealthy’ – and in a way – I am.

Not in cash of course (like most people I still have to work to get that! - even while caravanning full-time!) but money is not independence, and I don’t work just for the money.

Money gives you the ability to make choices that’s for sure, but you can still be independent – a free spirit if you will – with much less than the bank account of a top celebrity.

Let's Party!!

When you’re single, going clubbing is a great way to meet people with similar interests, I met most of my friends through nightclubs while I was a single girl.

It’s also a great way to get away from your worries and just be able to let go in an environment where no-one looks twice if you’re dancing like an idiot, talking to everyone and anyone, generally, just having a great time with not a care in the world.

Happy Birthday Darling!...

Who knows, what life will be like at 80? Certainly, we don’t have any idea when we are in the busy family years; or those times when we can party till dawn and still get up for work next day. A misty future, all lavender and lace seems to be a very far off future.

I planned big for my 80th. A meal with friends and some family the Friday night before;

Design comes in all shapes & sizes!

Having been a designer for the whole of my seventy years working life, it struck me the other day that quite a lot of people would have little or no idea how much designers impinge of their lives.

Not much is produced without a designer of some sort having been involved in its creation, whether it’s designing the label that goes on a match-box, or the exotic craft that we now have exploring the planet Mars for us.

How To Be Happy!

What is happiness... Really?  – For me personally it's a state of mind where nothing is a problem. Where life still feels pretty good even if (say) you don’t have a job or a partner perhaps and you wake up every day thinking positive thoughts and saying positive things.

There are many things you can do to be happier, but my top seven are;

Jacqui as she arrived in AU 1987

For most women hair is important. From the early days when they were dragged by it, to now where it can be coloured and tortured into every shape or shade possible.

But I have a love/hate relationship with mine!

How We Found Yarram!

OK… a bit of an experiment here!… We all have our own way of telling the same story. Like Brian & Jacqui Lee.
Both love writing short stories and both are also very creative artists living in a small coastal town in regional Victoria called Yarram.

So when we recently asked if they could write something about
how did you two end up in Yarram?’ we weren't expecting a story from both of them written... from their own perspective!

We’ve combined both stories below in a sort of ‘time-line’, to see how each of them recalled what made them decide to settle in Yarram.
