Don't Worry!

Having trouble finding 'true-happiness'? What is it really anyway?

A few years ago I was 'lost'... literally! No job, a failed marriage, no car and literally no-where to live. A friend offered me a bed until I sorted things out.

This one person's kindness probably saved my life, and despite all the challenges and uncertainties we are faced with every day just like I was then, finding true happiness is not impossible; it's a journey that every one of us can undertake with just a few simple steps.

An Attitude Of Gratitude:
One of the easiest things I discovered was to practice gratitude. Take a few moments each day to reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Just think about a few of the main things you're grateful for, whether it's a supportive friend, a beautiful sunset, or a moment of personal achievement. This mindset can shift your focus from what's lacking to what's abundant in your life.

Too Busy?... Make Time For Yourself!:
In the hustle and bustle of modern life, it's easy to get caught up in the chaos.
Take a few minutes every day in quiet contemplation, focusing on your breath and observing your thoughts without judgment. This might be while having a tea/coffee break, a short walk before a meeting or catching up with friends. This all goes towards helping enhance your awareness, reduce stress, and pave the way for a more joyful existence.

People Matter:
While the internet is an easy way to stay 'connected' to family & friends, face to face human connection is a fundamental source of happiness whether with friends or family. Make time for meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and acts of kindness. Building strong connections with others provides a sense of belonging and support that can contribute significantly to your overall well-being.

Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle:
Physical health and mental well-being are interconnected. Regular exercise, healthy meals and getting enough sleep all work towards creating a healthy body which in turn creates a happy mind. The other good thing is that activities like exercise release endorphins, the body's natural mood lifters.

Think That You Can & You Will:
While ambition is all well and good, setting realistic and achievable goals is crucial for on-going happiness. We need to break down our larger goals and ambitions into smaller, manageable steps. Celebrate your progress along the way, and don't forget to acknowledge your achievements. And if you 'fail' then try again... Just like Thomas Alva Edison and many others before him!

Turn The Negatives Into Positives:
Our thoughts have a profound impact on our emotions. We all need to turn negative thoughts into positive ones. Instead of dwelling on things such as a family break-up or challenges at work, focus on solutions and opportunities for growth. Adopting a positive mindset can significantly enhance our overall outlook on life.

Engage in Activities You Love:
Take time to do things that bring you joy and fulfillment. Whether it's a hobby, going for a walk, maybe reading a book or indulging in creative activities like painting, maybe some wood-working or even sewing, making time for the things YOU love adds to your overall life satisfaction.

It's The Journey... Not The Destination!:
As I mentioned at the beginning, having felt like I had 'failed' in life, a simple gesture by a friend made me realise how lucky I was, and over time I've learnt to incorporate all of the things above into my daily routine... and you can too!

Remember, happiness is a choice, and it's within reach of every one of us.
Enjoy the journey... Oh and keep smiling ok? SmileEmoji
